October in a Nutshell

Lance's job since he has been jobless has been to update this blog. Well, he keeps 'forgetting' so here I am to give you all a snapshot of what life has been like since we moved in!

Picking up where we left off, we moved into our house and I reported to the SLC office for three days only, before leaving to Alaska for the PDX office. The SLC office is wonderful. I have a great cubicle (right by the window) and everyone is super nice. The office is gorgeous too! It is an old building, remodeled with exposed brick and the older features preserved. I am excited to spend more time in that office. They also have a stocked free vending machine, a lounge with TV's, a foosball table, and all the oreos, trail mix and chocolate covered almonds and raisins you can eat. Maybe it is a good thing I don't spend more time there?


So from the SLC office to Alaska I went. Well not exactly, I took a small detour to Portland for Sunday afternoon to wedding dress shop with Lacy! I can't post those pictures for obvious reasons, but we had the most productive wedding dress day we could have imagined. It was a blast and I am SO glad we were able to squeeze that in. After the wedding dress shopping, my Dad and Suchanun had me and some favs over for dinner. My Dad cooked and most of my favorite people came to say HI! Thank you everyone.

The only picture of mine and Lacy's day that I can show! We stopped at a craft store and they had TONS of wedding ideas.

Next stop...Anchorage. The first weekend in Alaska we didn't waste anytime. We had a great day sightseeing and it was really cool to see Alaska sans-snow!

The Turnagain Arm - the drive from Anchorage to Girdwood to Portage Glacier

Portage Glacier, AK. This is at the Conservation Center. This place takes in wildlife that can no longer live in the wild on its own due to injury or other natural causes. They take them in and roam around over 140 acres of land.

 The dead trees in the background sunk 10 feet on Good Friday March 27th, 1964  during the Great Alaskan Earthquake. When the land sunk from 7-12 feet, the area was filled with salt water from the Ocean and killed the trees that were there. This is what is left of them.

After the conservation center we went to the ski resort, Alyeska to show Angel. It was not open to ski yet, but still pretty to see.

When the sun goes down, it is time to go moose hunting. They are very active animals right around dusk. We saw 1 bull moose and 3 cows this moose hunting session....see for yourself!

This is the moose that was sprinting (above). He spotted something and came to an immediate dead halt. We were confused at first (he stopped right in front of our car) .We noticed it was a dog owner and her dog hiding from the moose in the bushes. It was absolutely stunning to see. We were so close we could see the hot air from his nostrils...creepy!

This is the only bull moose I have ever seen in the wild. Check out his antlers!

The night before we had all of this fun (above), we went out and had a little fun when the sun was completely down. Chillkoot Charlie's was our destination, also known as 'Koot's.' It is the biggest bar I have ever been to. You walk in and it is like a mall of bars, there are literally over 10 bars in this one place. They also had an area for everyone. A place with a live cover band, a club area, multiple areas for pool, a beach club a biker bar, etc. It is so strange, but very fun. Maybe too much fun...

This was a few nights before when we went to this sports bar called the Peanut Farm to watch the UCLA game. Unfortunately the Ducks won :(

Although it looks like all I do is play when I am in Alaska, we are just really good at making every moment away from the client count. I mean, do you really want to see pictures of what I do most when I am up there? Pictures of conference rooms with no windows and whale baleen on the wall, laptops, junk food, files and delirious accountants just does not seem to have the same appeal to me...not quite sure why?
